Parliament speaker visit to the Albanian Arbëresh community Italy: Gjergj Kastriot Skënderbeu, the emblem of our nation

New Speaker Elisa Spiropali, paid a visit to Hora e Arbëreshëvet in Sicily to participate in the festive activities on the occasion of the establishment of the Albanian association.

Spiropali greeted the Conference on the Albanian national hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu, organized by the Municipality of Hora, with the participation of local authorities, citizens and representatives of the Albanian Diaspora.
Appreciating the figure of our National Hero, Mrs. Spiropali underlined: “Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu is the emblem of the Albanian nation, it is proof of dream lived and the battle won in our struggle for identity”.
Spiropali also appreciated the contribution of the Hora community to Albanian history and culture.
“Hora e Arbëreshevet and you, the Arbëresh people of Hora, have a major contribution to the survival and preservation of Arbëresh language, culture and literature. Hora is an important center of cultural, social, political and religious of the Arber community.”
“It is the merit of the Arbëresh that enabled the legal recognition, in 1999, of the Arbër community as a historical linguistic minority in Italy”, the new Speaker of the Parliament further stated.
Following the visit to the main Arbëresh settlement in Sicily, she visited today the Museum of Arbëresh Culture “Nicola Barbato” in Hora e Arbëreshëvet, where she had the opportunity to get to know the history, culture, traditions, work and daily life of the community.
