Speaker Spiropali in Skopje opposes abolition of Albanian as official language in North Macedonia: Identity is threatened, the Ohrid agreement should be implemented

On the eve of the decision of the Constitutional Court in North Macedonia on a request for the abolition of the Albanian language as a second language in the country, Tirana has officially requested that the law that is in force be fully implemented.

Speaker of the Assembly, Elisa Spiropali, said during a joint press conference with her northern-macedonian counterpart Afrim Gashi that the violation of the Albanian language violates the identity of Albanians, as she added that this issue should be resolved according to the Ohrid agreement.
“We wait with confidence and hope that the law on languages be fully implemented. The Albanian language is sacred and has to do with the essence of our identity.
“Its violation hurts as it violates our identity, we understand the concerns about the possible changes that are expected from the Constitutional Court, but we expect that this will have a solution according to the climate dictated by the Ohrid Agreement, as determining the framework of the problems”, said Spiropali, among other things.
