Opposition accuses SP in power for the fire in the plastic factory in Elbasan: It cooperates with poisons
Democratic MP Ervin Salianji spoke about the plastic materials factory that was burning today in Elbasan in central Albania, saying that “the company cooperated with the government on poisons”, adding that 500 employees were affected by the incident.
“The criminal activity and cooperation between the government and the Kurum company is not only in the poisons, but it was completely exposed today and at the expense of 500 employees and their families”, said MP Salianji.
He added: “On August 1 and 15, the Kurum company closed its steel and rolling mills, laying off 500 employees. Although the news was made public at the height of the toxic waste scandal started by Albania, the company stated that these departures are related to the economic difficulties caused by the decrease in the price of steel and the increase in costs.
“The company assumed at that time that it would continue to pay the employees for 3 months after the departure. While today, after several successful ‘negotiations’, the Mayor of Elbasan appeared ‘triumphant’ promising that no employee will leave and they will continue to receive a salary of 35,000 lek per month, lower than minimum salary of 40 thousand lek per month provided by law. As a matter of fact, the mayor as a representative of SP admitted that this is a repeated situation, where 500 families live in uncertainty about their income”.
“But, if the Government, Municipality and Kurum have decided to play with the income of 500 families of Elbasan for their political interests, the Democratic Party is on the side of the workers and will do everything possible to ensure that no one will make fun of the work and their dignity”, writes the opposition MP.
