DP opposition denounces the announcement of new elections in Himara municipality: The President has violated the Constitution
The head of the DP Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, has reacted after the decree of the date of the elections in Himare municipality by President Bajram Begaj.
The democratic MP states that the President has openly violated the Constitution by decreeing elections without an enforceable decision yet regarding the invalidity of the mandate of the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, in detention since the election day for election crimes.
“What a shame for the President of the Republic who openly violates the Constitution with decreeing elections without an enforceable decision yet for the invalidity of the mandate of the elected mayor of Himara”, writes Bardhi.
August 4 was set as the date of the elections in Himare municipality, after the CEC removed the mandate of the elected mayor, Fredi Beleri.
The Presidency clarified earlier that, as determined by the Albanian legal system, in case of vacancies, the President of the Republic is put in motion after the announcement and has 48 hours to act.
The presidency also clarifies that decreeing the date of new elections does not prevent Beleri from appealing the decision, requesting his right to the relevant institutions. Begaj decreed August 4 as the day of holding new elections for the coastal Municipality of Himara.
Beleri won the elections for the municipality of Himare, but was detained before the elections for vote corruption.
