University college in Tirana is closed after the scandal of selling diplomas
In the building of the non-public Wisdom University College in the Albanian capital Tirana, the topics of the students of the previous academic year are still displayed, while the employees silently await the results of the scandal of selling fake diplomas by the educational institution.
The Ministry of Education announced the initiation of the closure procedure of this institution at the end of July, therefore Wisdom College has prepared leaflets to attract young people to enroll in programs that they believe are accredited.
“Some of the intolerable findings are, firstly, the lack of registers with legal standards. You cannot register and graduate a student without these records. Another unacceptable violation is a study program for which diplomas were distributed, but it does not turn out to be a study program at all”, said Ana Kapaj.
However, from 2022, the Ministry of Education announces that it has started verifications of universities at the country level for the legality of their activities, and in December 2023 started the checks for the private university Wisdom, where violations have been found that have led to in the decision of the working group for its closure, notification that was sent by to Deputy Minister Ana Kapaj at the end of July.
Regarding the fate of dozens of students at this University, the vice minister stated:
“The closure of a higher education institution is done by decision of the Council of Ministers. We have initiated the request. Normally for the first year there are no registered students, but for the rest of the students there are requests to register in the branches or the profiles they want, which will be done accordingly”.
