Skydiving air show is held for the fourth year in a row in Gjirokastra airfield

In Gjirokastra, in the southern tip of Albania, the several-day international skydiving festival started yesterday for the fourth year in a row.

The air show brought to Gjirokastra professional skydivers from several countries, 40 of them from neighboring Italy. Parachuting from the planes was spectacular and gave thrills to spectators and amateur participants. Albanian pilot Ergestina Levani, organizer of the event, said that the Drino river valley and the aerodrome, are geographically ideal for the event, which this time was also favored by good weather.
“At this moment we have two English paratroopers who have come specially for the event. Dozens more who come to jump here, which is a confirmation of the growth of sports tourism, so we have more positive advertising for Gjirokastra and Albania”, said parachutist Levani.
Some of the guests also gave their opinion about the event.
“For us Italians, this activity is very important. We are cooperating very well with our Albanian colleagues to make it possible. Transmitting this culture to others is also important. I am coming for the sixth time and I share every attraction of this region with my friends on social networks”, said one of the interviewees.
The event included dozens of free-throw flights from a height of over 4,000 m. The field aerodrome of Gjirokastra was officially qualified for this activity two years ago, after about 30 years of lobbying, according to the organizers.
According to the certification specifications, the landing of small aircraft weighing up to 5700 kg was allowed at the historic aerodrome from sunrise to sunset, and only in suitable weather conditions.
