Reform in educational structure reduces power of local offices in favor of central and regional ones

The Albanian government has approved the new management structure of the pre-university education system, which starts implementation from October 1, 2024.

Unlike the previous plan, a strengthening of central or regional institutions is observed, thus reducing the weight of local educational offices.
With the reformed scheme, the National Agency of Pre-University Education as the main link for educational institutions, increases the number of employees from 20 to 33. Meanwhile the regional directorates will have 55 more people at work, from 60 employees will be restructured with 115 employees, say the authorities.
To the four existing educational regional directorates in Durres, Fier, Korca and Lezha, by order signed by Prime Minister Edi Rama, the directorate of the largest district of Tirana is added.
According to the new scheme provided exclusively by Top Channel, the National Agency with 13 more employees also adds the position of deputy director, as well as the support services sector, which will also bring new appointments.
This change in numbers is expected to be accompanied by the reformation of the local education offices… but it remains to be seen if this empowered structure at the central level will affect the increase in the number of inspections or quality in the Albanian education.
