President Begaj honors the victims of Greek ‘ethnic cleansing’ against Albanians in Chameria

Albanian President Bajram Begaj was this Monday in Konispol in the southern tip of the country, accompanied by the mayor Ergest Dule, and laid a wreath of flowers at the “Trendafilat e Çamërise” Monumental Cemetery in Kllogjer.

The memorial is dedicated to the victims of the Chameria Albanians’ exodus during the years 1944-1945 from the region over the border to Albania. This visit of the Head of State was welcomed by the Justice, Integration and Unity Party as well as the “Chameria” Patriotic Association.
Through a reaction shared on social networks, the PDIU party writes that Begaj is the first President to honor the memory of “2900 victims of the Greek genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Albanians of Chameria”.
“Today’s act is a good example for all institutions and statesmen in respect of our history and the sacrifice of lives lost due to the injustices of the past”, says the statement.
