PM Rama for Reuters: There is no agreement with other countries other than Italy for immigrants, Germany should find another partner
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, on the eve of the opening of the Italian refugee camp in Gjadër, in an interview with the Reuters agency, rejected the possibility of an agreement with another EU country other than Italy, for the reception of immigrants.
He said that Albania has made an agreement with Italy to accept refugees arriving there, to help curb irregular migration to the EU.
Asked if such an agreement was also possible with Germany, he said that there is not enough capacity. “Germany must find another partner,” added Rama.
The prime minister further said that he intends to run for a fourth term in 2025. “The plan is to run. I believe I should run because there is work to be done. In these three mandates, we have done amazing things. Albania was just ‘bad news’ when it came to it, but now we’ve crossed the 10 million tourist mark. There are still many things to be done, such as the fight against corruption, which must be irreversible”, he said.
Rama was today in a meeting of the ‘Berlin Process’ with the leaders of the Western Balkans and representatives of the EU, as Albania seeks membership in the European Union by 2030.
