Fiks Fare; Government’s 500,000 euro investment for the revitalization of Nivica tourist village, forsaken without ever being used

Nivica, a village of Kurvelesh in the southern tip of Albania, known for its canyons that are visited by thousands of tourists, was part of the project of ‘100 villages that would be revitalized’ by the Albanian government with an investment of 500 million ALL.

With these money three buildings were built as service units in 2017, which were never put into operation, while today they are destroyed by atmospheric elements and require additional funds to repair them.
Fiks Fare program took a close look at the condition of the center of the village of Nivica, where the residents claim that they were built a few years ago and just left like that. Along with these buildings, some town facades were also fixed, but they have been abandoned for three to four years.
“They say there is no interest, they say is to be done by the private sector… words are words. It would be good to arrange them so that people will be put to work, and more tourists will come…” says one of the residents.
Fiksi asked the Tepelena Municipality about the current condition of these buildings, which have not been used since their construction. The councilor of the mayor Mr. Aleksandër Toti says that the investment was made in the framework of the revitalization of the center of Nivica, within the “100 villages project” by the National Coastal Agency in 2018.
“The buildings were handed over to the Tepelena municipality 6-7 months ago and this delay has affected their depreciation,” asserts Mr. Toti. He adds that in recent years Nivica is in the trend of tourist villages most visited by tourists.
But the National Coastal Agency does not explain why it took so many years to transfer the premises to the Tepelena Municipality so that they could be used and maintained. What is understood is that once again the Albanians’ taxes will be used to pay for the repair of buildings and this because of the bureaucracies of state institutions.
