Alarming numbers of electric scooter accidents, minors the main cause

Fiks Fare program returns to the problem of electric scooters and food delivery bikes, which continue to be a disturbing problem for the pedestrians and the traffic in the Albanian capital.

From the observation on the streets of Tirana, Fiks fare saw that the majority of scooters are driven by minors, who often travel in the opposite direction.
Most of them do not have a driving license and do not know the traffic code or road signs, which creates precedents for accidents. The same situation, and often even more aggravating, occurs with bikers that distribute fast food.
If you look at the statistics of road accidents from 2023 until now, they have increased by 90% in the category of scooters, which do not have any safety measures.
Fiksi Fare asked the National Emergency about these cases, where the head doctor Skënder Brataj claimed that the statistics have increased by a frightening number in terms of the year 2024 and calls on the drivers to be careful, since at these rates, according to him, the situation could degrade.
The same opinion is also the specialist of Tirana Police Road Traffic, Gerhard Baka. He told Fiks Fare that they are aware that scooters are driven by minors, but they do not have the right to take any measures for this category of vehicles. So the drivers cannot be sanctioned. The draft of the measures is in the process, says Mr. Baka, but yet not approved.
“The only thing we can do is raise the awareness of these drivers. First of all, they should take care of themselves, and then also of others,” concludes the traffic specialist.
